There was an article in the paper just the other day about the "real" Santa. They did a photofit, you know like they use with criminals, to determine what he would have looked like, and they found him to be olive skinned, fairly slim, and with a cropped white beard, as apparantly that was the fashion in Saint Nicholas' time! Merry Christmas everyone!
I saw that too - not at all like I imagined him to be. I always think of him with a long white beard, rosy red cheek & obese, because he never seems to fit down our chimney. He comes inside & leaves all the presents strategically placed under our tree!
there was a programme on bbc 2 saturday the 18th dec. called "the real face of santa claus".the legend is based on a turkish saint (nicholas) who was a christian in roman times and helped those less fortunate. after he died his bones were stolen and taken to italy where they now lie and are worshipped on a special day in the year. a scientist sent the skull measurements to a top facial reconstructionist at manchester uni and they came up with a very benevolent looking man. he had a white beard too. any way,it was dead interesting. :0D
I heard somewhere that the image of santa claus that we all know and love was devised by coca cola, in some sort of marketing campaign, a long time ago
