Daedalus

Afternoon everyone.

I have completely forgotten who or what Daedalus is! Anyone there who can jog my mind? I have a feeling he may have risen from the grave? Although I think that is Lazurus?

He was an inventor in ancient myth. Famously made wings for himself and his son, Icarus. The son flew too near the sun and the wax in his wings melted..
I think Joyce used the name for a young character who lived on his wits. He was a part time school teacher, bullied by the schools headmaster into writing to the press about foot and mouth disease in Irish cattle. In the book he also had an extensive knowledge of Eng Lit.

He also designed the Unix box that some of our test systems and Apache web servers run on... clever guy!!

He did design the maze. When the king wouldn't let him go he deliberately designed a hot bath that scalded the king to death.
I admit, I never knew he designed the parts that help make the internet what it is.
