I don't have an answer for you sorry, but that's an excellent point.
Very true but at least we now have the option to use the 'gift aid' thing so our tax can be transferred from war to aid which has to be a good thing.

I have a real problem with the charity culture.  There is plenty money in this developed world to respond to disasters and tragedies.  Yet people are emotionally blackmailed, and as always the less well-off will give the highest donations proportional to income.  Governments should be ashamed.

I agree that it the less well off that give the most and that there is enough money washing around to respond to crisis , but this is the world we live in and i can,t think of an answer. And like many people who feel helpless giving a small amount of money makes me feel better
Overall, government aid towards the tsunami victims would appear greatly to exceed the private or charitable aid. This will be particularly true if staff costs (sending troops, for example) is taken into account.

Lets swap it around for a second. Money can more readily and in vast amounts go to Aid. But when there is a war the Government can match the general public for . They could call it the CDF ( Creating disaster fund )

if we want to donate to war we should be able to make a choice, but when people are in a crisis because of no fault of their own we should have to donate in our taxes. I totally agree with you.

Yes, the cost of the war comes out of our taxes.......but AID comes out of our pockets AND our taxes!
