Charles Edward Stewart was the son of James Francis Stewart (James III, the 'Old Pretender') and Princess Clementina Sobieski of Poland. Charles was born in Rome but spoke English and French.
He also spent his last 22 years in Itlay. He died in Rome on January 31, 1788 (although a Scottish hero, apparently, haunted throughout his life by the passion for Stuart kingship he ultimately ended his life as a pathetic drunk)
