I guess for most people at my age (60) it has to be things like JFK assassination, Walking on the moon, Elvis death, Lennon death, Diana death, 9/11 Twin towers, Boxing Day Tsunami.

Younger people may say Michael Jackson death as well.

I remember the night Elvis died so vididly because we had a huge rain storm in London that night and my house was flooded. I will never forget that, 2 shocks in less than 12 hours.
its funny how most people have out twin towers which happened in america but no-one has mentioned 7/7 london bombings. But mine would be twin towers, diana and 7/7
Yes well there's a reason for that 4getmeknot

Firstly 9/11 was an out of the blue attack nobody really expected it. Secondly many people heard of the first attack and watched the news to see the second or the actual collapse live.

That kind of embeds itself into your memory more
I'm sure nobody expected 7/7 dont know about you but I was definitely shocked when then came on the news
I put 9/11 as I remember where I was when I heard about it where as I don't for the 7/7 bombings, therefore 9/11 seems a bigger event to me.
although twin towers sticks more in my mind because of the collapse which couldnt have turned out better for the terrorists. I remember where I was when watching it also where as I cant remember watching the tv as it all unfolded on 7/7
