Barnacle village in Leics

Where did the village get its name ?

There appears to be many families in this area,what is the connection,and does it refer back to a Viking chieftain ?

Barnacle Bill the Viking?

The Barnacle in Warwickshire got its name from 'barn on a wooded slope'. But Leicstershire was in the Danelaw (Viking region), I think, so it may have got its name differently

Aaargh; just read jnos post correctly was thinking you said "The Barnacle" as in a hotel or something! When you type Barnacle UK into Google the one in Warks is the only one that comes up so would imagine jnos name origin explanation is correct!
