What was the name of the German General(?) who rejected the ceasefire at the end of WW2, and fought his way through the Soviets in order to surrender to the western allies?
We rejected their surrender and handed them all over to the Soviets, he ended up in a Gulag in Russia, I forget his fate too.

The event that springs to my mind is the handful of German garrisons in Trieste refusing to surrender to Tito's Yugoslav Partisans, holding out until the 8th Army arrived and surrendering to the New Zealand Division. This was except for the SS(?), drunk(?) in the Tribunale Building who refused to surrender to anybody. The Kiwis left it to the Slavs to bombard the building and accept their surrender.

No, it was in Germany, Berlin to be precise.
I'm only being lazy, I'll have to glance through Siegfried Knappe's book "Soldat" to see if I can find it again.
Thanks anyway.

General Schorner (The Hangman), last seen in Krasnogorsk prison.
