Here's my imaginary scenario. Hitler gets deposed in 1939 for a more moderate nazi leader, say Speer. Europe is at peace and all is well.

What next? Would peace have lasted?

I assume that Russia would have been tempted to invade them at some point?

Welcome back, mamjet.
You can imagine away because the scenarios are absolutely endless.

I hope peace would have lasted - but looking at our modern so-called 'peace time' leaders, i wouldn't be betting on it...

Hi Mike, yes you can continue listing irrelevant answers rather than answering a harmless question, if that's the only chance of wielding power in your life - go for it.

In an alternative universe he didn't. In another one he won!
The words 'moderate' and 'Nazi' are not normally found next to each other.

good question (so are mike's, but not the same question)... Things can always go differently. Britain wasn't in any hurry to fight, nor militarily ready to do so, and appeasement was popular at the time. The Nazi regime was oppressive at home, but that isn't necessarily seen as a reason to go to war: we invaded Iraq because it has oil, but ignored North Korea, which doesn't, though it's far more oppressive. We could have lived with Nazi Germany if they hadn't been threatening other countries.
IMO these 'what if's' are a kind of history party game - good for a laugh but the variables are so huge that under no circumstances should they be taken seriously (stern look at Mike).
eg the invasion of Poland can't be isolated from the preceding military build up, political wing-wanging and general frightfulness that came about in germany after 1933.

One world war and one world cup dont sound right
Well Germany probably wouldn't be as prosperous as it is now, Wirtschaftswunder and all that
