I would like to use this quote by Abraham Lincoln "Most folks are about as happy as they make up their minds to be." I have found it in loads of books so have no problems referencing where I got the quote from, but none say what year it was actually said. I’ve been all over the internet, even the official Whitehouse site, all to no avail. Can anyone help please?

Somewhere between March '61 and April '65, for sure.

Do we know who he said it to? That might help narrow it down a little.

Nope no idea. I found a book on Amazon that lets you see inside, it said that a lot of the sayings attributed to Lincoln; he didn’t actually say, so maybe this is one of them.

The only quote I know attributed to Lincoln is, "Anyone daft enough to watch this stupid play ought to be shot".

Possibly no one knows. I found wikiquotes merely attributing an early reference to it for 1917. Maybe it is falsely attributed ? Who knows ?
