would anyone know if there is a way to get resin off some
plastic containers, got the gummed labels off with a struggle, but the
backing resin resolutely stayed put, and nothing so far has shifted it.
I have tried all sorts, not least elbow grease, but they remain sticky to
the touch. Tried soaking them, cif, you name it, nothing works

Have you tried nail varnish removed?
try nail polish remover, mother always swore by it
white spirits?
Betterware sells "sticky stuff remover" probs on ebay too xxx

Woud using a scourer work? Or rolled up tin foil xx
Usually need something spirit based to disolve glue/gum.
Something thay fizzes aswell? Maby bicarb of soda or even washing powder x
Mayonnaise works apparently (according to Kim and Aggie anyway) slather it on and leave for half hour then try scraping off with a knife/spatula.
ice cube, or put the container in the freezer

tried nail varnish remover, stuff bought from DIY place, sticky stuff remover, didn't work, not white spirits as yet, might start drinking it if this goes on, ruddy nuisance, as everytime you pick one up its like treacle stuck to you.

My best mayonnaise, well i will try anything once.
The Maplin stuff works but stinks a bit. Others have said that WD40 also works.
Question Author
thank you and something to be going on with, the mayo one is interesting, if it works will let you know.
Question Author
The mayo just made a mess, but the WD30 worked but it's so toxic decided the best thing is buy something else preferably without labels.
Thanks for the suggestions will keep them on record.
WD40 washes off fully and completely by using washing up liquid. No toxicity worries there.
How about WD30 though, Heathfield :)
I always used to use nail varnish remover till I discovered sticky stuff remover. I'm surprised they don't seem to work for you. Admittedly elbow grease needs to be used as well, but I've never had a label that I haven't been able to remove the sticky completely.
I find some sticky labels peel off easily and completely and just cannot understand why all manufacturers don't used that type!!
I had this problem with containers I wanted to keep so in the end I bought clear stickon labels & stuck them on the sticky part & then printed my own contents on them. Problem solved.Ron.
Lighter fluid...
i know you've solved it now whiskeyron but a good trick we used to use at work when we reused containers is to fill the plastic or glass containers with hot water(the hotter the better) and leave for a couple of minutes then you should be able to peel the label off really easily without leaving any of the sticky glue behind.
