I read in a paper the other day and also have seen on an advertisement for topping up the loft insulation that you lay the insulation across the joists as opposed to in between them.We are getting some to top up our loft and thought that if you lay it across the joists then you won't be able to see where to walk and could end up coming through the ceiling - or am I missing something?

If it is important for you to walk about in your loft.....you can gauge where the ceiling joists are by looking at your roof joists...
Get your hands on a few boards and lay them across the joists then walk on them when in the loft.
or a pair of snowshoes?
