Gas Hob ignition help please

The automatic electric ignition on my gas hob has started going off on it's own every 30 seconds or so - there's nothing on the knobs or over the plates. Any idea what's wrong or the first place to look for the fault?
It's the type that works by pressing the individual knobs rather than a single separate button.

Any water in the contacts in one of the the knobs?
If not, one of the knob switches needs removing and switch looking at. A.

Thanks Al, water is a possibiliy as I'd just finished wiping it down. I'll go and give it a check.
Another possibility is grease or carbon in the switch part. Try fiddling with each one to see if it's different in operation.
Try drying the knobs out with a hairdryer, or a warm tea-towel.
