Best way to remove dado rail?

Can anyone advise me of the best way to remove dado rail? I'm not sure if it's glued on or nailed on.

mine came away easy few tacks here and there and a bit of glue...you may need to make good a few bits...took mine off by prising with screwdriver...

carefully is all i can say hopefully its just nailed i its glued you are likely to damage the plaster when you remove the rail

A chisel or pry bar and a mallet or cub hammer will work however it is fixed. Remedial work will certainly be required no matter how careful you are.

No tell tale depressions or places where filler might have been used?

Just fitted one with screws and left places which can be spotted by careful examination. Think No Nails is used by some people and that's bad to prise off.

tap a scraper down the edge of the dado rail if its nailed then it should come away easily, but its rare to just nail on a dado rail without glue.....start at an end ( on an external corner or up against the architrave of the door ) tapping the scraper as far into the back of the dado as you can then prize away STEADILY......move along the dado a little at a time, prize too hard and you could pull away the plaster, try not to use a screwdriver, chisel or similar as leverage or you will just dig into the wall.....there will be an amount of filler work once the rail is off but patience in the removal proses will minimise this

Beg, steal or borrow, or as a last resort buy, one of those gadgets that you can detect buried metalwork/cables beneath the plaster. Run it along the dado and see if it detects any screws/nails. If you find any at least you know where to start.
