mismatched paint

I bought a tin of gloss and a tin of emulsion, same make and colour, but when i applied it to a wall and a door they are distinctly different, the emulsion is quite a nice yellow/cream, which was what I wanted, but the gloss is magnolia, they are both called 'ivory cream', is there any chance that 'Homebase' will replace the gloss? after all paint is not cheap.

Have you opened the gloss? If so, then no, I doubt they would replace it.

You can but ask, but if you have used some then they may not depending on how much they value your custom, as they will not be able to sell it again as a full can.

Of course much may depend on whether this a a mislabelled can or merely a case of different paints having slightly different ideas of what "ivory cream" means. Personally I didn't realise one could milk ivory.

Only you can see the extent of the variation. But paint can change tone once it has dried and the way light will work on gloss and emulsion will create an illusion of variance in colour.

Are they really that far apart once dried and viewed in all lights?

yes ecclescake I thought of that and painted some of each on a bit of white board, they are very different, I think old geezer may be right and the tins may have been wrongly labled, could be doing them a favour by complaining, might as well give it a try, thanks everyone.
