I've spent hours Googling this - the favourite answer seems to be to have the damn things cut off and start again! I really don't want to do that, so your link is very helpful. Interestingly, the firm is only a few miles away from my problem. Maybe this type of guttering was specific to the Tonbridge/Tunbridge Wells area?

Finlock gutters were installed all over the country. The main problem is that they are installed level, so the gutter never drains properly - towards the downpipe. Coupled with a few leaves and bits of moss growing, the water just sits in there and eventually breaks through the concrete, either below (to leak) or internally (when it makes the extrernal leaf of the cavity wet. A ridiculous '60s solution to guttering which created lots of problems. The old system wasn't broke and hence didn't need fixing by Finlock.
Agree the normal solution is lining, and galvanised steel seems to be one solution I have seen used. It doesn't change the angle of slope but (done in one single piece) it prevents the leaking at any point other than the ends - where the downpipes are located.
