Having cleared my bath pipe physically and hearing a "Buurrp" when I ran the really hot water down the plug hole, I came downstairs to find my kitchen bench near the sink nearly swimming in water.

This wasn't there before I worked on the bath.

Could the Buurrp have caused a surge of water to come up my kitchen plug hole? It's mystifying.

Yes..blow back..
Question Author
Blimey!! Thanks murraymints.
Chrissa............. I was worried when you mentioned unscrewing the plughole.

Is it a conventional (older type)?
Question Author
Oh, yes I guess so Builder. I just unscrewed the screw in the middle of the, whatever it's called and it came out. It was easy to then screw it back in again.
Oh nooooooooo no no no

That should only be done while your other arm is under the bath holding on to the trap (S-bend).

Only guessing, but the rubber washer between the trap and the waste (plughole) has become dislodged.

I wasn't under the bath. I just unscrewed the plug hole metal cover that you can see from above.
Question Author
Lol craft. No, the thing with holes in is all I touched.
That's the problem Chrissa. It'll unscrew fine. It just won't all line up properly to screw it back in.

To re-screw ....... one hand holds the trap and rubber washer in place under the bath, while the other hand screws from the top.
OR, Builder, the whole assembly's come away allowing whatever goes down the plughole to go where it likes.
Just guessing Douglas, but seems likely.
Sounds to me like you have cleared an air lock and the pressure release so to speak has caused blow back further down the line..kitchen sink...are things all ok now ?
Question Author
Oh flip!!

I've done it before with my kitchen plug hole and you can buy these fittings at DIY shops.
Everything looked all lined up to me.. If it's so dangerous, why do they make them so easy for Twonks like me to undo?

I'll be fine.
Question Author
Things are fine now. The sound did sound like an airlock.
I could be completely wrong Chrissa. It may be something along the lines of what Murray has said.

Since we don't know for sure what's happening under the bath............ er ................ you're not going to like this ......... er ........ you really should take off the bath panel now :o(((
OK... scrub what I said, but I still don't see why water appeared downstairs though :o(
Haha ............. I think you've been lucky Chrissa.. Good for you :o)))
Question Author
Lol The Builder. Thank you for your concern, It's much appreciated.
