I was given a Gerberra pot plant a while ago, it's finished flowering and is getting big - can I plant it outside?

it won't survive the winter, you'd do better to have it outside in a tub. They vary greatly in hardiness. The ones cultivated and sold as gifts or cut flowers tend not to be hardy.
