Thought I would make rhubarb and orange chutney. Unfortunately I forgot I was cooking (I am getting a bit old) until I smelled the burning. Managed to save quite a bit but ended up with the bottom of my lovely Judge heavy stock pot encased in a black cement-like stuff. I have managed to chip part of it away and with constant soakings and washings, and even a dose of bleach I can see bits of stainless steel showing through. However, as it is not doing too good, I wondered if anyone has any suggestions to loosen it and get rid of it. What would I do without Answerbank?
IF you have a dishwasher then a couple of dishwasher tablets in the pot with enough boiling water to just cover the burnt on bits and leave overnight -it works a treat.
I did as you said jenny and also put a handful of salt in it ( a friend's suggestion). It worked a treat and the burnt bits came off in large lumps. A bit of scrubbing and it was almost back to normal. Thanks again.
