Fuse Box

Please forgive me as not sure what everything is called.
Basically I have a fuse box that takes fuses. I want to change these to switch types or button types. What ones do I need and are they universal size?

I have got one like your Gav"old fashioned " and keep meaning to change it...was told about £300 for one by Scottish Power but my friend`s partner had one put in for just over £100 by a proper qualified electrician.
So yes,Gav ,a new box it will have to be!!

First question Gav...why do you want to change fuses for switches?

Be aware that from January 2016 newly installed domestic consumer units(fuse box) must either be constructed of a non combustible material or encased in a non combustible metal enclosure.

I am using a computer that doesn't like me!!!
I was going to write "because I do" but that would be rude.
Inherited a few problems from previous owner. Electrician changed one fuse with one that you just push a button. I have a light that when bulb blows it occasionally blows a fuse so want to change that one as well.

They do exactly thw same job, Gav. The only good reason to replace the old Wylex rewireables is the ability to reset quickly.

Easily obtainable - push button or switch type. Any electrical merchant, or Ebay.........

Gav.....circuit breakers of the same value will trip more often than a cartridge fuse.That said I think its time for you to order a condition report and at the very least update the board.
