i have used it to make a gate, but i found it does not stay locked in place when you move it around, i was thinking about nailing one onto the batten, then clicking the next on into place and nailing that on, do you think that will work well?

Given that the cladding is only 14mm thick, I'd follow The Builder's advice of attaching battens and then fix the cladding into place using Gripfill type adhesive (solvent free if you wish) applied to the face of the battens. I'm not clear if you are using it in an outdoor situation but nevertheless, many of these tube adhesives ar suitable for outdoor use.
Funnily enough, I've used a few over the years and one of the best is called "Sticks Like ***". Available in Screwfix.

Tandh, for an outdoor application, I would "secret nail".
Pin each piece by nailing carefully in through the top of each piece. i.e. drive each pin at roughly 45 degrees in through the top "tongue".
With care, each nail hole will be completely covered by the next piece of cladding that is set on top of the one you've just nailed.
