What They For!!!

Hi all, I've just bought a 1930's vintage easiwork kitchen cabinet, or you may know it as a kitchen maid, the thing is, on the bottom shelf ( on the top half of the cabinet ) is a bit cut out in the bottom the shelf, but have no idea what would go in it, on the next shelf up are 2 runners underneath the actual shelf which looks as if maybe some sort of basket(for bits like butter knives etc) would be kept in but this is just a guess, anyone out there remember what either of these interior bits were actually for, it would be a great help

Hi sorry can't send pic as stripping it down in garage at moment but if you google kitchen maid it'll show you pics, I've been on the net trying to find out but no joy just thought if anyone remembered these from the 60's when they were still popular they might know

It could be where the "pull out table" which was a feature of some models was housed?

I did think it might be for bottle storage but I don't think they had bottles as big as we do now back in the day it was made (1930's)

The pull out table is on the cabinet, it has two half's, the top half houses the shelves with doors at the front it seem's really hard to find out what these bits were for

Does it really matter what they were used for? Just use it for what you want to use it for.

its not that big mark, two sets of double doors on the top, one set on top of the other, then the pull out table and the bottom half under that has one large door on the left as you look at it and 3 draws on the right of that, the bottom of these 3 draws it zinc lined and deeper than the other draws

Is it similar to this at all? On the shelf above was a hopper that may have gone on the runners to dispense dry good (flour etc).

From your description your guess seems likely. The cut out to accommodate a basket that slid in & out on the runners above. As to what went in it, I'd suspect owner's choice.
