When we moved in this house, over twenty years ago, the previous occupant had painted the white meter box with some kind of dull brown paint. It looks like fence paint.
Over the years this has worn away and we now have an unsightly looking box with areas of white showing through. It look a mess.

What sort of paint shall I use to repaint it? The original box was white plastic.

Any gloss colour you fancy.

I don't want gloss. OG. It will look odd, I think. I thought there might be some special paints for painting plastic.
Use an exterior waterproof paint.
When we had our house painted they used the same paint for the boxes as the house so if you have any of that anywhere.

Will that be matt, Danny?
Plastic should be primed with a primer suitable for plastics and non-ferrous metals, Tilly.
It's a bit late now though with that brown stuff on it.
So... If it's a painted, rendered wall, then just rub down and paint it in with the masonry paint. It helps to "lose" the box to the eye as well.

Otherwise, use an exterior eggshell (if you don't want gloss.)
This is just one of them...

Give it a good old rub-down though first.
As Builder says you need to rub down well and get rid of anything that is flaking and not adhered properly ~ start with a wire brush but go gently, so not to score to much. You can get a plastic primer from Halfords then finish with whatever as top coat.
