I’ve done quite a lot of wallpapering but on straight walls. I need to paper a wall with a chimney breast. Is it best to start in the middle of the chimney breast and then work out towards each side or start at one end and work across?

Best to start in middle, especially if the paper is patterned.
As above, but it also depends on the size of the pattern, either way make sure that if you start from the middle that your paper will rap round the corners of both sides by at least 6 inches, or minimum 4 inches.

Thank you for your answers. I can now get started at the weekend.
Where you start depends entirely on just how wide the chimney breast is. What you don't want, as teacake says, is the overlap being less than about 4". You also do not want to leave yourself with less than about 6" either side of the face of the breast because as you wrap around the angle, you will find the paper pulling away from the butt join.
If your paper is patterned, it is also a good idea to ensure that the pattern across the top of the chimney breast matches the pattern either side of the chimney breast. So that when you look at the wall as a whole, it is symmetrical. Hope i've explained that so that you understand what i mean :-)

Thanks Ken. I do follow what you mean. I’ll do a bit of measuring before I start.

Thank you for all the advice. I followed it and the wall is finished and looks good.
Well done!
