Before you do any spiking or cutting you should make sure you know where all the control valves are to prevent a flood then also at least if you do need the p;umber you can show him where they are saves time and money HTH Tez
There are rules and procedures afecting the installation of out side taps. to prevent cross-contamination and backflow proceedures have to be adhered to, iso valves and double-check vales must also be fitted in the correct sequence and building controll will have to pass it if you are not qualifed and this will cost as much as getting it done by a pro so is it worth the hassle i ask .
Why is it that those in the trades think we are idiots? While there are those who might try to do this job without turning off the water supply the vast majority of us know better. If your hubby is not a moron ( you be the judge) let him give it a try . Worst case is calling a plumber to do it after all. Most DIY stores will happily give you all the info you need including telling you about any special fittings you will need.
I'm been a tradesman since 1970 and I admire people who will have a go themselves as its not cheap anymore to get in a professional. There are however a minority of people who do not forsee any danger in anything, and everything they touch turns to ****. I have seen some DIYers who have done a more thorough job than some tradesman would and ive also seen some tradesman do some appalling and dangerous things. Its all a matter of common sense and the ability to know if you are capable or not to carry out the task. Then again theres that minority who are totaly convinced they can do the job, but can't.
