9 years ago we had 6 cabin lights put in our kitchen ceiling. They had an unsightly transformer which we had to hide on top of the kitchen unit. They bulbs used to fuse quite often and they were very, very fiddly to replace.; also the brass surrounds were forever falling off . We have now replaced them with some (we thought) better ones which have screw in bulbs and no brass bits to fall off. However the bulbs are blowing more often than the last lot. What can be wrong?

Thanks for that Cleversod. That's what my husband kept saying but I thought it was more serious (ever thepessimist). I'll get some from a reputable electrical shop next time! You got it spot on - B & Q - you are a cleversod!!
Can also be caused if the transformer output is not matched to the load imposed by the bulbs - results in the Low Voltage at the bulbs being a little higher than the bulb rating. This makes the bulbs brighter but shortens their life. And that definitely happens as soon as one bulb blows - it raises the voltage received by the other 5 left in the circuit.
