I am looking for a planer/thicknesser which can convert from one function to the other for amateur use. Any ideas anyone - I have tried the web sites without much help.

Convert from what function to what function. My planer requires no converting. If I am planing one face I pass the wood over the top of the bed. If I am thicknessing then the wood is passed underneath the bed and on top of an additional bed that rises and falls as required. the same rotating blade does the cutting Hope this helps.

Thank you mrpeter. That is exactly the sort of information I was looking for. I had phoned a couple of so called technical advice numbers on tool companies but they were only interested in selling an expensive machine without telling me how it worked. So now all I have to do is find one at the right price.
Hello jos1
Screwfix have the sort of equipment that you are looking for. It is Woodstar PT85 @ 219.99.

Thank you again mrpeter. I have now found what I was looking for less than 1km from my house at Machinemart. Cheaper than Screwfix and two others made by Clarke on the same lines and both even cheaper so all I must do now is choose one and buy it Answerbank is better than phone call isn't it?
