Hi does anybody have an idea of price to have a gas fire and surround insalled? I already have a gas fire but its about 18yr old? thanx

it depends whether the fire you wish to purchase is suitable for the chimney and hearth in your home ,and if it is not do you wish to pay more to have it altered
the cost of fires can be found on the net and in catalogues but the safe working life of a gas appliance is 15 years max. so do something about your fire

oh my god! 15 years!! a new fire it is!!! confusing! i will have to get an expert in to tell me what type i need to buy, im female and cluless ! thanks julie
I suggest you don't need to get anybody 'in' at this stage.
First go to the retail outlets that sell fires - there are several on the high-street - and find the type of fire you want at a price you can afford. The retailers are well-used to this situation. Once you have selected a fire, the price will be subject to survey anyway and a qualified chap/chapess will have to come around to assess the job before the deal is finally struck. Prices are very variable dependent on the type of fire.
