Plumbing in shower tray without detachable sides?

Shower traps may be accessed for cleaning through the 'hole'. Low shower trays may require a hole in the floorboard through which the bottom of the shower trap fits. I accept that this means limited access, but how often does one need to get at these things - once they are proven watertight?
The solution really depends on where the 40mm outlet pipe is located (running along the edge of the room in boxing or below the floor between the joists).

recently had the same problem, only answer to it apart from major work is to build a wooden plinth/false floor high enough to give clearance for the waste pipe, just gives a step up into the shower area.
As the tray i fitted was the opposite side of the room to the waste i built a false floor the full width of the room.
It needs to be well built so as to not allow any movement of the tray, i also fitted the floor section in 2 parts to enable me to do the plumbing
