My radiators are just heating a wee bit from the bottom, the water is red hot, but not the radiators, we had probs before with the heating, and had to wait for a new part,so no heating or hot water for a couple of weeks, couldnt go through that again, but the engineer said he could get it working, but it needed yet another part, so i told him just to go ahead, maybe it needs this other part now, could it be the thermostat that has gone???

what type of boiler and heating system do you have i.e. is it a combi boiler or a traditional type with tanks and a cylinder?
in either case let me know the make and model of boiler

when you turn the heating on is the boiler firing up and if so how long does the burner stay on for?

when you say the radiators are a bit hot at the bottom, are we talking luke warm? are the pipes leading into the radiator valves hot or luke warm?
if it is an old style system when the radiators are a bit hot at the bottom is this at the same time as you are heating the hot water?

Its a potterton EP4001, the pipes are are warm like the radiators, think its a combi boiler, dont have a tank,its firing up most times and running for a few minutes, but sometimes you put it on and it dosent fire up for a few minutes, i keep thinking it isnt going to engage!!!

i'm not familiar with that model code but lets presume it is a combi.
you say the waters working fine so its got to be a component at fault that affects the heating side only. i would be looking at replacing the heating thermister.

thanks gucci thats what we thought,i couldnt be bothered waiting for yet another part so let the guy fix the boiler with the new panel, will inform the housing association

My neighbour's boiler downstairs has stopped working, since I had a leak in my flat. I presume it got wet, could this just be an electrical connection problem and a new fuse needed. It's a gas boiler.

new panel? you dont mean the circuit board do you? i would have tried the thermister first as they're only a tenner.

Gucciman originally the fault was a circuit board fault, which after waiting nearly 3 weeks to get and fix, while the engineer was here he said another part was needed, by this time i had enough having no hot water or heating, so he fixed it saying that this other part would possibly go at any time, and i think it is the thermostat that has finally broken!

perhaps you need a change of engineer !

it is possible for the hot water to work but the circuit board still be faulty on the heating side but we always try a new thermister first as they are so cheap compared to a board.

we can normally get a new board the same day from our local supplier or the next day unless the boiler is something of a rarity.

gucciman the company are a joke, i am not worried about the expense cos my housing assoc will have to pay,but when all of this kicked off, they waffled constantly and then there were a couple of bank holidays included in the time i had too wait,i complained to my association, but they said they were better than some that had the contract before!!!

Hi puddicat, The potterton EP4001 is the time switch not the type of boiler you have. If you could find out the model of the boiler then I may be able to help you out, Look on the boiler itself for any indication as to what it is. ie. Potterton Performer 30 HE. etc.. From you're description it sounds like the engineer is taking you for a ride here, as gucciman says we could have sorted a new board out the same day not nearly three weeks later. And i suspect you didnt even need a replacement board anyways but of corse I could be wrong as i am not able to carry out any fault finding on you're boiler.
