Plaster
4 Answers
I have just had my kitchen plastered and the guy who did it built up my windowsill for me(it was uneven). I am going to paint it at the weekend, but my question is this; I don't want to tile the windowsill so is there anything I can put over the paint to make it water resistant?

If it says to use turps or brush cleaner to clean up, it will be OK. Don't use any paint that says to clean up using water, as these paints will deteriorate if the sill gets damp. Oil-based paint will give you a waterproof finish to the sill.
Hi crapmemory, both dulux and crown make a emulsion that is for kitchens and bathrooms. It is not waterproof but is a lot more water resistant than the usual emulsions on the market. If you are going to be putting things on the sill the vinyl silk would probably be more suitable as it is easier to wipe without marking. As you say you have just had the room replastered the walls should be fairly flat. I wouldn't use a silk finish on very uneven surfaces as it shows up all the marks on them.
