solid wood flooring

I want to put solid wood flooring down,im told the only way to fix this is secret nailing to batens or gluing to a concrete base. Can i screw batens to existing 6"x6" quarry tiles that have no solid sub-base under them(they have been down probably.70-80years). Thanks for any comments!

no and why would u want to ruin 80 year old tiles

Danchip, they are one hell of a mess , all discoloured they've had carpet over them for probably 30 years and are really cold too.

Just try a few test fixings (rawlplug and screw). If they hold well - then go ahead :o)

Put a polythene damp proof membrane down first..........the floor is probably damp.

Thanks to The Builder. Thats what I will do, I reckon its pretty stable.
