Very simple plumbing question

I have been plagued by a leak from my bathroom, thru the ceiling, to the kitchen. Water had been pooling, but I have traced the leak and it is not that bad - all that needs doing is the nut to the tap being tightened.

I want to make sure when I try that I do actually tighten it, so what way do I go - clockwise or anti clockwise.

clockwise
While that's a true statement, be sure to turn the water off under the sink or whatever the "tap" (we call it a faucet here in the U.S.) is serving before tightening. Additionally, if it's a simple "tap" with a handle on top and serves only the hot or cold water individually, simply tightening the nut under the handle will probably suffice. However, don't over tighten it... this could have unintended consequences. You may wish to think about replaicng the washer inside the tap since this is most likely the source of your leak. At any rate, Good Luck!

lmfao Postdog that is indeed a Very simple plumbing question.
It is only a simple question if you do not know the answer. Postdog had the sense to ask, and Chuck & Clanad responded in the same vein.
shut up misery.
If I were you postdog, I would undo the nut completely, (after draining water of course) wrap some PTFE tape around the thread and then retighten, never over tighten plumbing nuts as this can crush the olive (washer) or damage the pipe, good luck, Ray
Righty tighty, lefty loosy!!
I don't know why plumbing manufacturers say to put PTFE tape round the threads. If the olive doesn't make a seal, the fitting will leak, PTFE or not. I always put about three smooth turns of PTFE round the olive instead, with excellent leak-free results. (Well, most times!)
