My wooden table top has begun to split on the top / side. It is slowly getting longer. The split is visible. How can I repair it? and prevent it from happening again.

Don't really know the answer, but would suggest that the table is splitting because the wood is drying and shrinking (central heating ?).
Only way I can think of is to screw a batten underneath across the crack to hold things together.
A carpenter may have some better ideas.
If it's relatively new you could go back to the seller.
Is it a pine farmhouse type table Wolfie?
try some pva and clamp it into position for 24hours.

It looks like a deep dark red coloured wood, but this is just varnish and stainer as I saw other furniture being made at this place. To be honest I don't know what wood it is. It looks like panels, light (pine) coloured wood. But it's really heavy in weight.
Thanks for your answers, I've heard that central heating is a massive problem to wood furniture.
Toleman's right Wolfie. Try and bang a small timber wedge into the open end of the crack - to open it up enough to pour some PVA glue into it - then you'll need a couple of long "sash" clamps to clamp it up overnight.
