leaking waste pipe

Hi. I recently fitted a bathroom suite but did not use enough silicon sealant on the sink waste u -bend(plastic) where it fits to the brass sink down pipe resulting in a very slow leak. It is located behind the sink stand so I can't get to it without removing the sink.I thought that over time with use it would seal itself , but no.Is there anything i can use to stop this leak without having to remove the sink. thanks

You shouldn't need any silicone for the connection Jiggy - I think that's possibly the problem.
The trap (plastic U bend bit) has a black "O" ring seal captured inside it.
This just screws hand tight onto the waste (metal threaded bit).
It's a kind of friction thing to make it seal.
If you use silicone, the ring slips all over the place and usually out of position - causing the leak.
We've all done it at some time or other :o))))
Can someone hold the basin while you take the pedestal out for access?

Thanks builder.Unfortunately I used the old waste which had no o ring system fitted to it.Like your idea about supporting sink and removing pedestal.I thought that a plumber might use a substance that would seal joint when applied down the plughole or something of that ilk.Thanks anyway and keep up the good work.
