I live in a 120+ farm house with wood plank floors. Some of the planks are up to 20 inches wide! The past owners painted the floors (red, brown, tan). How do I go about stripping the paint to show the orig. floors? Also the past owners painted the wood beams on the walls. Can those be stripped?

Sandblasting JR ............. specialists with all the right kit.
See if you can find a local one and get their opinion.

You have to clear the room though - the dust is horrendous, but the results are excellent :o)
Can I jump in on this question please? I will shortly be having the same problem and would like to ask the Builder if sand blasting is better then a commercial floor blaster?
sorry, that should read a commercial floor sander.
JR ........ may I just answer Vulcan's question ..............

I suggested sand blasting because JR has beams and posts that need stripping as well as the floor. If it's just the floor you want to do, then standard floor sanding is fine - but bear in mind if there's a thickness of paint on the floor, it will bung up a few sanding sheets in the process. :o)))
thanks for that Builder and apologies to jrobinson for jumping in on his question.
If you're thinking of a sander make sure you can punch all the nail heads in first by at least 2mm, and get a coarse grit prob 40 then 80 grit. Also be aware that if the paint is old it could be lead based!!
