we want to polish our bathroom floorboards but there are large gaps in them. These look rustic but we are concerned that it may not be safe to leave the gaps like this. Will it be OK or should we lay something under the boards? Deb

You'll lose your heating through the gaps, maybe water will drip through Debs, best to cover the floor, why not try cork tiles warm underfoot and not slippery they look good too. Aunty Jem.

You could lift the boards, if practicable and put down a hardboard surface and then replace the boards, but if you close up the boards you may lose an effect which is quite attractive. or you could caulk the boards, rather like the timber deck on a ship.I believe there are several caulk finishes available but the simplest would probably be a paintable silicone.
