Patio mortar

The mortar between my patio slabs is breaking up and crumbling. If I scrape it out, what is the best way of replacing it? I have been told that it has been done before with a dry mix, and that is part of the problem - it doesn't bond properly with what is underneath.

I had the same problem a few years ago, a guy in the pub who does ground work recomended some stuff you just brushed, in pressed down and that was suppose to be it, quite expensive and lasted a couple of years. Ended up buying bucket of B & Q ready mix mortar, made reasonably stiff mix, filled the gaps in and tamped down with the back of a damp spoon. After 2yrs it still seems ok
Paddywak is talking about Geo-Fix which is quite expensive but very good http://www.geo-fix.co.uk/productfeatures.html (costs about £30 for a 20kg bag I think) Wickes do their own version of it which is a good bit cheaper. http://www.wickes.co....tio-Grout/invt/154003
Nothing will beat a proper mixed mortar ... pointed in by hand. This takes ages to clean out, etc, but it will last much longer.
