Can any one recommend a really good wood preserver/ stainer its for staining tudor boards on the front of the house and would need to be has dark as possible cheers

Sadolin do an Ebony. Great stuff .. good cover.
The best ones are spirit based.

I have used my old engine oil on fences and shed.
It is idel for this job and has the correct hue I think.
It works well.
My shed is still good after 26 years and my fence of woven slats is the only original in our line of 8 houses and is 26 years old!

Mutton Fat ... plastered on .. Must have stunk. And flies everywhere.

As an ex-pro decorator Sadolin was always first choice for me! Beats anything else hands down. But be careful with application. And don't let the consistancy put you off either. It might look like water but boy oh boy it's great stuff!
