The footings may not be on a good enough bearing, or possibly, if you're in a clay area, it might have dried out, or if a lot of rain, the opposite ................ clay swells resulting in "clay heave".
Let's assume it's just settlement. Remedial work is pretty straightforward. The cracks are "stitched" ........... for a vertical crack, stainless steel helical bar is let into the masonry horizontally across the crack.
The usual thing is to monitor cracking over time. If it doesn't get too bad then stitching and/or re-inforced render can hold everything together.
The important thing is to establish cause FIRST ............... then take remedial action accordingly.
It really needs to be looked at if you've actually noticed the widening cracks. I wish I could help more, but you might need a professional eye cast over it.

The area here is basically clay. What sort of lengths and diameters do you buy the rods?Do you set them into the wall and then add mortar? If it was an outhouse or extension, but it's only my shed so I don't want to spend too much money but at the same time I don't want it falling about my ears with me in it!!! Thanks for your very informative answer!!
