Can I fix a leaking sink with chewing gum? Don't see why not. Any Experience?

The sink is leaking a bit where it meets the U bend. Thought I'd seal the gap with chewing gum. Then sterlise. Gunm dries rock hard and waterproof. Cheaper and quicker than putty. But are there any downsides? Thanks.

It won't dry rock hard if it's in contact with water

Yep .. Doc
I install the odd Belfast Sink ... and the odd English Sink.
The old fashoined way was to use a piece of lead shaped to fit over the outlet, and use putty.
I use a little silicone.
I saw one recently that had been installed 8 years. The complete void inside for the overflow was filled completely with sealant! OF never worked. Bodger boys.
