Is it your thermostat?
Question Author
im not sure ...would it still heat my radiators but not my water if it was the thermostat
Check your system to see if it using a silver-headed valve between the pump and the HW Cylinder. There is a type with two ports, and one with three (Mid-Position valve .. This one pumps water to radiators through one port and to the HW Cylinder through the other) This valve can stick or fail. If one of these, there is a manual opening lever on the side of the head. Open it against spring pressure and hook it onto retainer. See if heat now flows. If now ok, this could indicate a thermostst problem (rare fault tho)
The outlet to the HW Cylinder should get hot when hot water heating is selected and called for by the cylinder thermostat. Make sure thermostat is still attached firmly to the cylinder.
Come back with what you find : ) Al.
PS. If you do find the motorised valve manual opening method works, you will need a partial drain-down to replace the valve, if thermostat is proved to be ok. Domestic HW valves are usually (2 or 3 port) 22mm connections with a 5-wire cable that has to be wired into the wiring centre attached top pump, boiler, HW Cyl.

thaks for your help i will get someone to have a look and let you know the outcome
OK.
You can do the diagnostic yourself, as long as you know where the pump, cylinder, and any valve is. Quite straightforward and nothing you can mess up! Sometimes, one uses a System Boiler .. In these, pump will be inside the casing .. Motorised Valve can be also there or external near cylinder.
