Fire door query
5 Answers
I have had a new conservatory built which goes accross my garage at the back, the opening to the garage from the conservatory was bricked up and a fire door fitted, when the work was done my brother told me the frame to the fire door had been fitted wrong as the space for the strip was at the front of the frame as the door opened into the garage there was nothing in the strip space and was seen when the door was closed also does the door need to be self closing and does the door need to be sealed at the bottom as there is a gap a few Cm, this was done by Anglian and i have queried this with them and they did not even know about the strip for the fire door they are coming back tomorrow and i would like any advise to back me up thanks

Something's got a bit lost in translation here Tony. I'm afraid I can't follow what the "strip" is that you refer to. No matter ............ ...
Usual rules ............ .. a 30 minute fire should should be provided between a dwelling and its garage. Now, whether a conservatory counts? I assume it would.

Usual rules .............. a 30 minute fire should should be provided between a dwelling and its garage. Now, whether a conservatory counts? I assume it would.
So ....... 30 min self-closing door ............ fitted with intumescent strips along the top edge and both sides,........... plus, usually, thicker door stops (timber fire-stops).
Also ......... to allow for fuel spills, the garage floor would be laid to fall away from the conservatory towards the garage car entrance (presumably at the front).
Since the floor is already in place, the alternative is to have a 100mm threshold under the fire door into the conservatory.
This is to contain any fuel spills, and give you something to trip over ;o)

I imagine we are talking intumescent strips here,
