I (and my father and other family members) used to use a mixture of creosote and old engine oil to keep the edges of lawns under control. However the EU 'elf and safety lobby managed to remove the caustic element from creosote and this solution no longer works. I have tried some other remedies since - jeyes fluid, bleach (doesn't mix with the oil) without success. The difference the previous mixture achieved as opposed to the usual weedkiller (all of which no longer seem to be as effective anyway) was its longevity.
Any suggestions gratefully received.
thank you in advance.
You shouldn't be poisoning the soil and everything that lives in it with chemicals..... in anything up to a medium sized garden tidying the edges of the lawn with shears (or a strimmer if you must) is hardly a major job.
