Tomato Plants
I have some tomato plants that are only just in flower (I had some seedlings growing in my compost) shall I bring them inside now to achieve any hope of fruit or abandon the idea and confine them to the compost bin?

Now with the darker nights starting and the weather cooling down fast the young plants won't do too much, They need heat and light. You may get an odd few tomatoes out of them if put into a heated greenhouse but sounds to me they started growing too late in the season for them to have time to grow their fruit. I wouldn't get my hopes up with them. Best thing to do is wait...

Start them off in a green house or on a windowsill in small trays,Let them grow a good month or two before re-potting them into a decent size pot outdoors in good soil, some place that gets best sunlight and let them grow through the summer, support them with canes as they grow taller and tie them to the canes as when the fruit finaly does come it can cause them to bend over and break with the weight of them,Also when a few months old start feeding them once a week.
