I FINALLY have 2 lovely raised beds each approx 5' x 3'6". I want to grow salad stuff in one and a bit of veg in the other - I've planted some onion sets and some leeks seeds at the other end of one. What can I have in the middle bit? I know I'm getting a bit late for thinking of this now, but can I stll grow some lettuce from seeds? I'd like to grox cos. Is this variety suitable or do you have a better suggestion? In fact, I'd really welcome your suggestions 'cos this is new for me and I want to get it right! Thank you.

You could put in radish seed, beetroot or carrot seed. Save some space for courgettes later, or tomatoes. Even sweetcorn at a later date.
I grow my lettuce in small pots rather than raised bed and it is usually mixed leaves salad. The slugs have a lovely feast if they are in the beds.

Thanks both - I'm so looking forward to seeing all that lovely stuff growing!
You can grow lettuce from seeds at anytime, It's never too late to sow them. Every two weeks plant a new lot in trays then when large enough transplant them replacing the last lot you have eaten. If you pull a few leaves off each plant but not all, they keep re growing fresh leaves but don't last forever and start to get run down so that's why you have new ones on their way redy to replace them with!
Try sowing spinach & chard - you can then use baby leaves in salads early in summer, then cook the older leaves / stems later in the year.
