DEATH TO MOLES

Not really. I would never harm them under any circumstances. I just wanted a question title that would catch attention.

Anyway, they are driving me mad at the moment. We have always had them to some extent because of where we live, in a fertile valley amongst the fields (yes we do have some valleys in Norfolk!). However, at the moment they have got beyond a joke!!

Has anybody got any fool proof remedies that will drive them away and isn't too difficult to achieve!

My brother had a sonic thing he stuck in the ground (solar powered) which seemed to work most of the time. I don't have any more details unfortunately but you could try Google.

Thanks Canary. Trouble is we have a huge garden and loads of mole runs and it would cost me a fortune to get those things. I don't want an immaculate lawn, I just want some grass left.

My next door neighbour had one of those gadgets, and it did work, but only over a limited range, so he ended up getting two. An old codger in our village offered him this piece of advice: 'The only way to get rid of them bludgers is to kill em'. Not very helpful really.

Kiki that is the general attitude amonst the really old local country people here, including my elderly neighbour. I just thing everything has its place in this world, just wish they would not choose my place!!

You can buy humain mole traps, I have forwarded a link, Mole tunnels cover quite a large area, Someone I new used something like this, they left the trap in watery manure for a while before use as moles have a good sense of smell.

Josephine, Thank you so much for that link. They have been reduced dramatically and I am going to buy three or four right now.

The trouble is we half half an acre of garden, but even if can control the moles in the back and front gardens I would be completely satisfied, then can go where they like on the rest of the garden, including Mr LL's veggie patch.

I did hear this one -

Get a musical birthday card (or any other occasion!), open it and place in a freezer bag. Bury it in one of the mole hills. Apparently they can't stand the noise and will (hopefully) leave.

Not sure how effective this is, not tried it myself. But it can't hurt to give it a try!

Your neighbours will think you've lost the plot if they spot you burying birthday cards in the garden.

use gloves when handling the traps, so they can't smell human contact, they do work but roll it well into manure before hand,
Hopefully you may find a nice soft soil bank somewhere with a lot of over growth to release,

Josephine, no problem about where to release, we are surrounded by acres of fields with soft soil and banks with ditches. Will have to get some manure though!!

my moles left after a year or so. They used up the available food resource and moved on.

In 33 years we have never been without them! Some years are worse than others. It's just the position we live in and the soil fertility. We literally are surrounded by fields. I am just so fed up with them on the back lawn (grass really) at the moment.

Our soil is loam, full of worms. Lovely soil for gardens, but also for Moles!!

:o) Sandy. Perhaps we should set up in business here selling the trousers. But they would have to be dead moles!!! The dog is in permanent mole hill duty with her nose stuck down the hole, but the moles are laughing at her.

I'm delighted to have hedgehogs in my garden. I suppose if they were digging the place up I might think differently.
