Sorry About This. Mower Cord Is Stickinh.

I used mower yesterday. Nothing wrong with mower. Today I accidentally let the cord whip back from its clip on the side of the handle. It shot back in (as it has done many time before) and now it will not pull out to start the mower. The cord keeps stopping few inches out) I have taken the top off and managed to jiggle it it bit by bit using a screwdriver to tap and press the top of the reel where it seems to be catching, and it is now fully out. (and tied round the clip). When I did this a little while ago thinking I had freed it and let it recoil back in, the same thing happened. It is as if it gets stuck on something. Any suggestions? I can't open it any futher to take a look
