Since I started putting food out for the birds, I have seen neither slug nor snail.
well done, Ric for using a non-birdkilling solution.
Question Author
I have food out for the birds too
Trouble is the slugs get to that as well
Keep us posted Ric. I have a friend who is plagued with them and is interested in using nemaslug. My garden is entirely walled so the only threat is immigrant slugs who have to climb an 8ft wall.
Funny you should say that ferlew. We feed the birds at all times and we have very few slugs and snails in our garden. Hedgehogs, yes, slugs and snails, no.

Apparently the nematocides make the pests rise to the top to be eaten by the birds
Had to use this as I have fruit trees and bushes to keep clear too
The have made a right mess of my lillies
Wish I had hedgies, but so far the birdies are doing a grand job.
Worth the birds mix, and the sunflower hearts.
Plus the blackies and thrushes love their currants :)

Jomifl - in my other house I saw a slug trail over and above the bedroom window
Question Author
Ferlew - the fruit bushes are not established enough for fruit this year (with the exception of my pear and cherry trees)
When they are the birds will be more than welcome to the fruit
I have still to work out how they get inside the rim of my wheelie bin. I can't stand it when they look at me when I open the lid.
Are you sure you don't have Lilly Beetles on your Lillies?
Lily beetles are nasty critters, usually brought home on young plants.
Always check your pots for cream bugs with brown heads.
I thought they were red with spots, ferlew. Mine are, I'm sure.
Dots, not spots. Spots are Ladybirds.
The adults are red, (and crunch underfoot) the nymphs are creamy white with a brown head.
Usually bought in , in young plants.
ALWAYS tap plant out of pot, and examine roots.
Ah! I see. Thanks, ferlew.
To expand, you will see the adult among the leaves on the plant, watch out, they can jump.
The nymphs look like a comma, usually found in the root ball.
Question Author
No it was defiantly a slug I saw munching away
But, to be on the safe side, what to do to prevent lily beetles?
