Aw Carol. Nothing nicer than your own home grown fruit and veg eh? LOVE runner beans. Next year, send me some.
Yep, all finished 'till next year. Good supply in the freezer. Bean trenches dug already for next year, can't wait.
No it's not here yet,the leaves on our fruiit trees haven't changed colour yet let alone fallen off.
Come on then Penny, step up. Send me some.
Janbee; If you were local you'd be welcome. Already supply half the neighbourhood from my allotment.
Lucky you, I'd LOVE to have an allotment.
I had my last few runner beans last night, feeling very sad about it. I agree, it marks the end if the summer for me.

But the courgettes keep coming and the kale is beautiful, so there's still plenty to eat in the vegetable garden.

I always do a late sowing of French Beans (2nd week in August) and they are now producing well, mind you i live on the south coast.

The runners did well this year, lots frozen and given away. Just waiting for the tomatoes to ripen, although the tumblers are red already.
Do you sow from seed in August Penny? I've had a disappointing time with dwarf beans this year and harvested just one decent batch really, although there are a few to pick again today, maybe they are late.
I'm still getting runners and dwarf beans.... and I have done a little experiment and planted some yard long beans the 2nd week in August.
" A bit late" you may say, but they are now up at about 6ft and flowering.
Forgot to mention they are in the pollytunnel. Will have to wait and see.
The tunnel is the best bit of kit I have bought this year. Have just planted spuds for xmas...
New potatoes, cold meat and salad after all the turkey etc ... my stomach is rumbling !
Hi Maydup: yes i grow direct from seeds but grow the climbing variety not dwarf.
I'm going to try that next summer P.
My tomato plants which grew from seed from old seeds in the compost bin are still doing well - loads of cherry-sized green tomatoes. I feel the chutney coming on :-)
