I am about to put an ad on my local website asking for someone to do 2 to 3 hours weeding. It will be heavy, mucky work with no skill required, perhaps suit a strong teenager.

What price should I advertise?

It depends where you live as labour rates would vary around the country.

I don't know the going rate. I'm in the West Midlands.
Here in Suffolk (which has some of the lowest pay rates in the country) you might get someone to do the job for £25 (or even £20) but £30 (or possibly £35) might be more likely to get someone to offer their services.
Down here on the South Coast you'd have to pay between £10 and £16 an hour IF you can get someone.
Do you belong to Streetlife? That`s the sort of question you could ask on there. Otherwise, maybe look at the private ad cards in the doorway of Wicks and Homebase and see what people are asking for their labour.
If you offered a fixed price I bet they'd get it done quicker.

I'd offer £20 and tell them they'd get £30 if they do a really good job.

Great, I think I'll advertise £30 for two hours (bring your own wellies) and pay £40 if I'm really pleased.

Thanks all
I charge £12 per hour for garden maintenance but I don't provide any tools, mowers etc

Shame you don"t live near me, hammerman
About £12 (plus tea and biscuits) an hour for an unskilled weeder here in Warwickshire - but be generous with counting the minutes ...
Next door neighbours pay an elderly gentleman £10 for an hour's work once a week, he does a good job, but at first she had to tell him which were plants and which were weeds.
Well my husband and I do a gardening job and we get paid 10 pounds an hour for both of us.? We do 4 hours each week.
£8-10 an hour....
